2013 Seven Hills Vineyard

« Back

Our goal with the vineyard-designate program is to showcase the uniqueness of each of our vineyards. This polished, elegant wine shows notes of  dusty cherry, loganberry, and lush dark fruit, combined with hints of star anise, rose petal and a subtle touch of mineralality. The mouthfeel is supple and velvety, showing red and dark fruit, fresh earth, and chocolate notes. This wine features characteristics of Seven Hills Vineyard with power, finesse and a long, persistent finish.

The 2013 Vintage

The summer of 2013 marked the warmest summer on record for us here in the Walla Walla Valley. Spring was cool and moist, as is typical here, with bud break occuring right on time in mid-April. Once it started started warming up, it didn't stop - our thermometers rose over 100° quite often! The first week of September brought relief: dramatically cooler days and nights which allowed for the development of our trademark Walla Walla Valley acidity. Harvest began around this same time, with the cooler temperatures allowing us to finish right on schedule at the end of October.

Awards & Accolades
93 Points, Wine Spectator: "Broad and spicy, layering clove and saffron overtones through the rich currant and mineral flavors."
90 Points, Tasting Panel: "Smooth and spicy with rich plum, soft herbs and a mellow, seamless style; long and dense."
91 Points, Vinous: "Bright medium ruby. Aromas of cassis, blackberry, dried herbs, licorice, minerals, star anise and black tea, with a sexy rose petal lift tempering the wine's very dark character. Suave and juicy in the mouth, more savory than sweet, with intense berry flavors framed by a firm spine of acidity. The slowly building finish features substantial but well-integrated tannins and subtle spicy lift. This is balanced to offer relatively early appeal but also has the stuffing to age."
