Joel Wright joined the winemaking team at Pepper Bridge Winery and Amavi Cellars in July 2018. Although he lived in the Seattle area for 13 years prior to joining Pepper Bridge, Joel is an eastern Washington native. He grew up in the Tri-Cities and the Wenatchee Valley. He moved to Seattle in 2005 to attend the University of Washington where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Post-graduation, Joel worked as a chemical analyst in Seattle, and it was during this time that he discovered his love of wine (the perfect combination of two of his favorite subjects: Chemistry and Agriculture).

In 2012, Joel worked his first harvest at Artifex Wine Co, primarily working in the laboratory. That harvest inspired Joel to pursue all aspects of winemaking and the next year he worked as a harvest intern at Guardian Cellars. Within a year he advanced to the position of Assistant Winemaker and within 5 years helped the company more than double in size and create their second label: Newsprint Wines. Joel has continued his winemaking education through the WSU Enology Certificate Program (2015-2017). Outside of his primary role at Guardian Cellars, Joel also worked as the Assistant Winemaker to Erica Orr on her personal label, Orr Wines.

Thus far, Joel considers himself fortunate to have worked with some of the best vineyards in the state, including Stillwater Creek, Klipsun, Ciel du Cheval, Obelisco, Quintessence, Conner Lee, Stone Tree, and Upland Vineyards. Now looking ahead to the future, he’s excited for the opportunity to work with the Pepper Bridge Estate vineyards and joining the team in producing world-class wine.
